Rey Chair
The Rey Chair has been created by HAY for the brand HAY. Originally created in 1971 by Swiss industrial designer Bruno Rey, it went down the annals of history as the country's most commercially successful chair.
Originally known as the 3000 chair, it used screw-less metal-to-wood joining which was completely new at the time. It was an invention that eliminated the traditional nailing and other joining techniques and gave a piece a sleek, unified look. With the re-issue of the Rey Chair,the joining has been upgraded to aluminium pressure die casting and is available in additional colours. The chair has a round seat made of die-cast aluminium and a frame made of beech wood. The slat legs are angled rather than straight which plays up the construction that has the perimeter of the seat just touching the legs. From a distance, it appears to levitate above the frame. The chair has a low curved backrest and is stackable.
The Rey Chair has a width of 44cm, a height of 80cm and a depth of 49cm. It has a seat height of 46.5cm. It is available in deep black, scarlet red, deep blue, slate blue, fall green, golden, soft mint, umber brown and grape red.
