Standard Chair
The Standard Chair has been created by Jean Prouvé for the brand Vitra. Originally designed in 1934, the chair became a French classic. It was revised in 1950 with details of some of the original features being retained while adding others that crossed it over to the contemporary side.
The Standard Chair has a backrest and seat made of oak veneer. The mid-height backrest has curves along its upper and outer edges. Those on the outer edges fold in the backrest so that it hugs the back. The seat is generously sized. The shell is supported by a base made of steel. The metal is shaped into tubular rods that form the front legs. The ones at the back have a wedge shape that gives the chair an intriguing aesthetic. The legs have felt gliders underneath that protect the floor.
The Standard Chair has a width of 42cm, a height of 82cm and a depth of 49cm. It has a seat height of 46.5cm. The chair comes in a broad selection of colours. Some have matching neutral-coloured shells and bases while others have different colour combinations of the two parts. Other items in the collection like the matching table can be used to put together a coordinated set.
