The Soft Pad Chair EA 217 Chromed Base was designed by Charles and Ray Eames for the manufacturer Vitra.
With its headquarters now in Switzerland, this company has been distributing cutting-edge furniture for over 70 years. In particular, Vitra played a key role in popularising the work of American design duo Charles and Ray Eames throughout Europe during the 1960s and '70s. In return, the Eameses revisited their classic aluminium swivel chair to create the Soft Pad Chair EA 217 Chromed Base especially for Vitra.
Standing 81.5cm in height and 58cm in width, with a seat height of 38.5cm, the Soft Pad Chair EA 217 Chromed Base has a frame of die-cast metal with a high-gloss finish. Supplementing the leather upholstery are three cushions which give the chair a stylishly sharp, segmented look. Below, the sturdy five-legged base is equipped with soft castors that will leave hardwood floors scratch-free. Meanwhile, under the seat there are levers for adjusting the chair's height and tilt.
