Missing Chair
The Missing Chair has been created by Regular Company for the brand New Works. Missing is defined by what the designers have left out. Through clever construction, Regular Company have been able to create a chair that is comfortable to use, but appears to be created via slender brush strokes instead of large pieces of bulky material. This gives the chair a formal lightness that makes it a dynamic addition to studies or dining rooms.
The form of the Missing Chair is both familiar and unusual. At root, the chair is a standard armchair with a backrest, seat and legs. The seat and back can come in a range of oak, black or walnut plywood veneers, while the frame is made from steel tubing. The originality of the design comes from the way that the designers have used these elements to minimise their size, allowing light to pass through and making the chair seem lighter than air.
In terms of size, the Missing Chair measures 46.5cm wide, 53cm deep and 78cm high, with an ergonomic seat height of 46cm. The steel adds excellent strength to the overall design, while the minimalist composition makes it exceptionally light, making the chair ideal in situations when seating arrangements need to be regularly changed.
