Mercury Soffitto LED Ceiling Lamp
The striking Mercury Soffitto LED Ceiling Lamp was created by the innovative Italian contemporary lighting design company Artemide.
Ernesto Gismondi, who founded Artemide in the late 1950s, became one of the 20th century's leading lighting creators. The Italian company soon became synonymous with inspirational design, creative innovation and technological know-how, producing lights that are chic, iconic and timeless. The firm has benefitted greatly from the talents of visionary designers such as Ross Lovegrove, whose passion for new aesthetics can be seen in his Mercury Soffitto LED Ceiling Lamp.
This futuristic lamp consists of several large hanging light stones which seem to float under a simply shaped aluminium disc. The various sized stone-shaped metallic reflectors, two of which house bulbs, are suspended by nylon cables of different lengths. During daylight hours, the lamp beautifully reflects the natural light and movement of people in the room. It then comes into its own when switched on: the smooth biomorphic surfaces of the light stones reflect each other to give the impression of a flowing light sensation, back and forth and back again. A stunning ambient light effect.
