Glaoui Alexandra Rug
The Glaoui Alexandra Rug was created by Sandra Figuerola for the Spanish design label GAN.
Launched in the late 1980's by José Gandia-Blasco, GAN is an indoor label delivering beautiful designs that are crafted by hand using traditional skills and techniques. Rugs are central to its product lines. With a background in fine arts, Figuerola was a founding member of the La Nave design movement in Valencia and now works from her own studio El Almudin. Designs from other cultures feature strongly in her work, which is widely exhibited.
The Glaoui Alexandra Rug is a good example of the role that soft textiles and rug design play in the Moroccan culture. Linear elements, the use of texture contrasts and a fringe trim are typical of Moorish rugs. These elements combined with the subtle use of earthy tones create a beautiful floor covering that fits seamlessly into any room of the home and matches any décor. It would also make a stunning wall hanging. The rug complements other pieces by Figuerola, including comfortable pouffes in the same design.
