The Eames Fiberglass Armchair DAW Golden Maple Base was created by Charles and Ray Eames for the brand Vitra.
The American husband and wife team started making these iconic chairs in 1950 and began their productive collaboration with the Swiss manufacturer Vitra seven years later. The relationship allowed them to develop their experimental ideas using new emerging materials to create elegant but practical furniture on a large scale. So successful were they that Eames chairs have become one of the most celebrated designs of the 20th century, featuring in New York's MoMA and other renowned collections. They are as desirable today as when first created.
The Eames Fiberglass Armchair DAW Golden Maple Base is among the more minimalist designs in this family of outstanding furniture, with the maple legs braced by just four black steel struts. The shell, with colour options, is made of glass fibre reinforced polyester resin for added support and comfort. With a seat height of 43cm, the updated version is slightly higher than the original and more suitable for contemporary living. Although created for the dining room, it will attract envious glances throughout the home or office.
